FILIPINO SCOUTS DISAPPOINTED
American Jamboree Cancelled
PARTY IN COLONY ON WAY HOME
A party of 32 Filipino scouts arrived in the Colony this morning by the R.M.S. Empress of Canada from America. The party set out from their homeland about three months ago to attend the great American Scout Jamboree which was to have been held in Washington, D.C. last August.
After travelling across the wide Pacific, their disappointment was great when they discovered that the event for which they had gone so far was not to take place, a sudden epidemic of infantile paralysis necessitating President Roosevelt giving the order to abandon the project.
Thousands of scouts from all parts of the great American continent had already arrived in the capital, while others were speeding there by boat and train. The scouts from the Philippines had done the most travelling and in consequence the President gave them an audience, after which they left on a tour of the United States.
