[English] HONGKONG BOY SCOUTS' ASSOCIATION. NEW ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER.

3 February 1925

HONGKONG BOY SCOUTS' ASSOCIATION.

NEW ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER.

A TROOPS OF SCOTTISH SCOUTS.

Mr. C. Champkin, who, in the absence of the Rev. G. T. Waldegrave, has been Acting Commissioner of the Boy Scouts movement in Hongkong, in the course of the "Commissioner's Letter" in the current issue of the Silver Wolf, the admirable official organ of the Boy Scouts' Association of Hongkong, writes:

I am very glad to announce that H.E. the Governor, Chief Scout Hongkong, has been pleased to appoint Lieut.-Colonel T. A. Robertson, O.B.E., Assistant Commissioner pending confirmation by Imperial Headquarters. ... Now if you will stop cheering for a moment I will only add that Col. Robertson is a Scout in every sense of the world. He has scouted with the Chief Scout in Africa and he has scouted with the Boy Scouts in England, and in between he has scouted more curious corners of the world than I can remember. We are proud to have him as Assistant Commissioner and we give him a rousing and hearty welcome as a brother Scout.

I would like now to refer to the kilted troop of Scottish Scouts that we are forming in the near future. Mr. R. M. Dyer suggested this excellent idea and is generously equipping the Troop with kilts and sporrans. He has communicated much of his enthusiasm to me and I expect great things from the Scottish Troop when formed. Already, I understand, four boys are struggling gamely with bagpipes, but we can't help that! Arrangements are being made for instruction in Scottish Dances and Highland games, but first and foremost will come Scouting. We cannot too strongly emphasise that. If we can bring to the Scout Spirit a national sentiment that will strengthen it, as I believe we can, then the success of the Scottish Troop will be assured.
