[English] BOY SCOUT AT 70. THE OLDEST ONE IN THE WORLD.

9 July 1927

BOY SCOUT AT 70.

THE OLDEST ONE IN THE WORLD.

A very upright, cheery eyed "boy" of more than 70 marched briskly, in full Rover uniform, with the rest of the boys of the 4th Ealing (Northfields) Scouts when they turned out for church parade at West Ealing, W.

He was Mr. John T. Hunt, of Coldershaw Road, West Ealing, who has not only been made an honorary Rover, but has also had conferred on him that greatly coveted Scout decoration the gold Thanks Badge, which entitles him to the salute.

Both of these honours came to Mr. Hunt in recognition of boyishly enthusiastic help which he has given to the 4th Ealing Troop.

Sir Robert Baden-Powell, Chief Scout, inspected 600 Boy Scouts and Cubs on the playing fields at Eton College, and of the number 200 were Eton College boys. Addressing the boys, the Chief Scout said:-

I am glad to see you Eton fellows have taken up Scouting. You can go on and become scoutmasters and help poorer fellows who do not get opportunities for learning to "play the game" in the public school spirit. That is what I want you to do in the future. I may say that Eton has led the way; other public schools are following suit. We shall get a large influx of scoutmasters of the public school type in the course of a few years.
