16 February 1934

London, Jan. 27.

LORD BADEN-POWELL

The condition of Lord Baden-Powell, the Chief Scout, is causing anxiety. The following bulletin was issued in London recently:- "Lord Baden-Powell has not had a good day and his condition is causing anxiety."

Immediately it was found that the Chief Scout's condition had changed Lady Baden-Powell was communicated with. She hurried to the hospital, and was at her husband's bedside until a late hour. Arrangements were made for her to stay at the hospital throughout the night, despite the doctor's reassuring report.

The relapse of Lord Baden-Powell came as a complete surprise to the hospital authorities. He had had a good morning and had eaten a good breakfast and lunch. Then came the change in his condition, and throughout the afternoon anxiety was felt for him. This continued until late in the evening, when the doctors were able to state that his condition was improving.

Last night it was learned that Lord Baden-Powell was sleeping peacefully, and that it was hoped to have him as well this morning as he was before the relapse.

Lord Baden-Powell underwent a second operation at King Edward VII Hospital on January 20. The first operation took place on January 3.
