Hollywood to film life of Baden-Powell
London, Dec. 6.
Mr. Sidney Box, Oscar-winning screen play writer of the film "The Seventh Veil" and a former boy scout, is to write the screenplay for a film about Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the scouts movement, the Boy Scouts Association said here.
Mr. Box will leave for California after Christmas to begin work on the film, which was planned by the late Cecil B. De Mille a few months before his death two years ago.
Mr. Henry Wilcoxon, film producer and an associate of De Mille, told Sir Charles Maclean, the Chief Scout of the Commonwealth, that Mr. Box had been chosen for the job by the Motion Picture Associates of Hollywood.
He said that the draft treatment had been completed and had been seen by Lady Baden-Powell, the former Chief Scout's widow, and their son Lord Peter Baden-Powell.
The draft treatment had involved reading over sixty books by and about Baden-Powell, also his many personal diaries and thousands of letters, Mr. Wilcoxon added.
"Mr. Box, like myself, is an ex-scout and has been appointed to the task because we feel it is essential that an Englishman should prepare the shooting script of this great man's story." - China Mail Special.
