GREAT BOY-SCOUT RALLY.

Prince Arthur of Connaught visited Birmingham and was present at a rally of 30,000 scouts at Perry Hall Park.

The gathering was international in character, patrols having come from many Continental countries, from the United States, as well as from the British oversea Dominions and most parts of the British Isles. Lieutenant-General Sir Herbert Plumer was in command of the rally. Prince Arthur was received with the Royal Salute, and after inspecting the King's scouts and life-savers, he rode round each division accompanied by the Chief Scout and staff. At the conclusion of the boys raised their hats aloft and heartily cheered the Prince. Interesting displays by selected patrols followed, and then, all the scouts having formed huge circles, began to run towards his Royal Highness, who had taken up his position at the saluting-base, shouting their patrol call. Within a few yards of the Prince they halted and remained silent at "the Alert." The ceremony concluded with three cheers for the King.
