BOY SCOUTS' PROGRESS.

The Duke of York's Lead.

Mr. Rudyard Kipling was elected a member of the Council of Boy Scouts' Association at the annual meeting of the association held in London recently.

Lord Hampton, Chief Commissioner, who presided, read the Chief Scout's report of the year's work. In this Sir Robert Baden-Powell said that the Duke of York was their President for London and for Yorkshire, and had given a most helpful inspiration within their movement by his readiness to inspect and address boys and by the lead that he had given to Scouters in devotion to the work. The fact that his betrothed was a Commissioner of the Girl Guides lent a greater interest to his engagement. The meeting sent a message of congratulation and thanks to the Duke of York.

The Chief Scout, in his report, pointed out that the overseas and home membership had increased by over 29,000. The Rover Branch was well established, with nearly 10,000 members. There was progress everywhere in the oversea Dominions, and at home a great number of the better schools, beginning with Eton, had taken up Scout training.
