THE SCOUT SPIRIT.
HAPPY GATHERING AT THE SEAMEN'S INSTITUTE.
The first of a monthly series of Scout Association "Camp Fires" was held at the Seamen's Institute on Saturday night, when about 130 Scouts were present.
The Hon. Mr. P. H. Holyoak, the President, made a brief speech, in which he emphasised the spirit of brotherhood which was behind the movement. It was by such movements, he said, that friendliness was to be promoted amongst the nations of the world.
The Rev. G. T. Waldegrave, the Commissioner, said that the gathering was significant of what the Scout movement was doing to promote brotherhood, since it was represented by British, Chinese, and Japanese boys, all working together in friendly co-operation. The Scouts were hoping to form a "Concord" Club, following an appeal which H.E. the Governor had made to them.
A delightful programme was gone through by the boys, including songs, choruses and troop "yells." Mrs. Skelton presided at the piano. Before dispersing, the Scouts gave three cheers for Mr. Holyoak and the visitors.
